A couple new keyboards

Monday, July 31st, 2006

It appears that Kinesis’ “Evolution” model has been “discontinued”:http://www.kinesis-ergo.com/evolution.htm. Apparently they’re working on a new one that’s going to be released by the end of the year.
And then there’s the “abKey”:http://abkey.biz/. No, it’s not some new ab exercise machine, but Ms. Singapore vouches for it nonetheless. It has a totally different alphabetical layout. I’ll try […]

Number 7

I don’t mean to brag, I don’t mean to boast, but we’re like “hot butter on a breakfast toast”:http://www.eweek.com/slideshow/0,1206,pg=0&s=27378&a=184493,00.asp .

Use it or Build it yourself

Sunday, July 30th, 2006

So there’s “this post”:http://www.linuxdevcenter.com/pub/a/linux/2006/06/01/switching-back.html in which a O’Reilly tech editor writes about how he’s switching back to Linux after a stint with OSX. The gist of his post was that OSX did not fit the way he liked to work, and that he could not mold OSX into the tool he needed to be efficient.
While […]

Teeth

Friday, July 28th, 2006

Went to the dentist today for the first time in several years.
Which got me thinking. My parents always used to try to get me to brush my teeth by telling me all the bad things that would happen to my teeth if I didn’t. Showing me their crowns, or talking about how I won’t taste […]

Thoughts on RSS

Wednesday, July 26th, 2006

I’ve always seen RSS (and atom and all these other feed systems) as a mixed blessing. While things like bloglines have definitely saved me a huge amount of time, I never liked the fact that RSS feeds don’t reflect the formatting of the original content.
Take for example “any”:http://www.mtwebb.com of “my”:http://www.electricrelxation.com “friends’”:http://thewayofche.blogspot.com “sites”:http://www.johnvey.com . While it’s […]

Mac Community

Tuesday, July 25th, 2006

Just saw “this post”:http://www.bryanobryan.com/?p=28 talking about how there are a lot of hostile and arrogant people in the Mac user community. It’s interesting to think about why that is the case. Maybe it’s cuz people realize they just got ripped off for their hardware ;-).
I certainly don’t think I act the way that the post […]

Settling in

Tuesday, July 25th, 2006

The fact that we really did find a place to move to is finally starting to set in. I deleted my apartment search feeds from craigslist, resulting in considerably liberating feeling. I feel like I have an obligation to read every feed that I subscribe to in “bloglines”:http://www.bloglines.com, so the absence of a constantly updating […]

Back to Wordpress, again

Tuesday, July 25th, 2006

The rash-est of rash decisions I make are those which I can implement with relatively little effort. Accordingly, I present to you, my wordpress interface, version 2.
Sorry if I broke your feed subscription again. Conversely, if you still were subscribed to my old Wordpress feed, then _welcome back!_
For posterity, the reasons why I switched back:
* […]

textpattern revisited

Monday, July 24th, 2006

So it’s been about a month since I switched to textpattern. I must say I have somewhat mixed feelings about it.
On the one hand, the structure offers a lot more flexibility than wordpress. It even let me do my smugmug integration trick without too much trouble.
On the other hand, not being able to edit various […]

It’s official

Monday, July 24th, 2006

Qian and I just signed the lease on a new flat. It’s a bit further into noe valley, about 2 blocks from 24th and Castro. It’s a ground level 1 Bedroom (in a building built in 1884!) with a big kitchen, an extra room that we’ll probably use as some kind of living room, a […]
