Wordpress Upgrade

Saturday, May 20th, 2006

Poking around Dreamhost’s web configuraiton panel, I saw there was a one-click option to upgrade my wordpress install. So I tried it. And 5 minutes later, now I’m using Wordpress 2.0.2. Well that went extremely smoothly.
The only downside is I lost my theme customizations, but those will return very soon, I promise.

Keyboard Links

Qwerter’s Clinic (Japanese). A keyboard fan-site with lots of great information if you can read
it. Of particular interest is this dissection of different Cherry switches.
SysOpt.com’s Keyboard User Reviews (English). A rare English site that has a pretty good list of keyboards.
Wikipedia’s “Computer Keyboards” Category(English). It’s pretty sparse, but it’s a start. I guess I’ll have […]

Ads

Monday, May 15th, 2006

Adding advertising to a site is a difficult exercise in exercising taste and restraint. I’ve hope my choices were reasonable. What you should see is an ad at the top of the sidebar, and on the keyboard pages, you’ll see one right at the top of the page. This should roughtly match my exposure rate […]

I’m moving moving

back back, to Wordpress Wordpress…
Moving the keyboard page back to being wordpress pages, for several reasons:

Most visitors to this site come through the blog, so I want these pages to be visible to them right away
It’s easier to keep a uniform theme if they’re integrated in
Having to SSH in to edit the page was starting […]

Keyboards In Detail

Monday, May 15th, 2006

Anyone who uses a keyboard all day for work knows the difference that the right keyboard can make in the quality of daily life. I’m continuously on the search or the best keyboard (which really just means something better than I have now). This page is intended for others who are picky about their keyboards […]

More on color

Sunday, May 14th, 2006

After staring at my new colorscheme for the keyboard page for a couple days, I’m not convinced that it’s actually easier to read. I’ve noticed that, while off white on dark grey looks fine for non-antialiased text, for anti-aliased test, dark on light seems better than light on dark. Also “boldness” is much more apparent […]

Choice Quotes

Jairam, talking about Modest Yahoo, “you know he went to Israel, and got into all that, what’s that thing, that Jewism stuff.” Well, it was something along those lines.

ExtremeTech reviews Das Keyboard II

Wednesday, May 3rd, 2006

Link. Mostly a standard review. They tested themselves to see if and how much their typing rate would improve, and they got roughtly a 10% increase over a week or so.
Couple mistakes from their article:

IBM Model M keyboards and Das Keyboard II have very different switches. The former has buckling springs with a membrane switch, […]

A few tweaks

Sunday, April 30th, 2006

Before I dive into a whole blog theme re-design. I thought I would get my feet wet by tweaking what I have now. So now, no “proudly presented by WordPress” in the footer, and search results/archives give you full articles instead of excerpts.
